James Palethorpe

James Palethorpe

James has been playing violin since he was five years old. He was a long serving player in the NSYO (then known as the WYO) and has since performed with many orchestras including Balmain Baroque and the Balmain Sinfonia.

In the more recent past he has been part of the band “Coolfin Mac” an Irish/Scottish folk group and has played fiddle with this group in many NSW folk festivals including the National Folk Festival in Canberra. He has also been with this group on tour in Ireland.

James, a born teacher, has had a violin studio and has been a schoolteacher for many years.He studied maths and music at university and graduated with a PhD in psychology. He then undertook further study with a Master of Teaching in order to teach high school maths.Currently he is a teacher at Sydney Grammar Preparatory School, St Ives.

James has kindly undertaken to conduct the Strings and Sinfonia while Emily is on maternity leave.
